Children Group Classes

Wall Street Chinese is well known for exploring innovative Chinese teaching experiments at our facility before introducing it to other schools which order our programs below. We have three group classes: Regular Chinese mandarin program, Special Chinese mandarin program and Chinese Art &Culture Workshops.

1. REGULAR CHINESE MANDARIN PROGRAM

The Chinese after-school

The after-school program at Wall Street Chinese is designed for children from 6 to 12 years old with no background in Chinese language. Other than giving a solid foundation of Chinese language to the children, we also help the students to apply Chinese at their study and life right away. The length of this class is 1.5  hour per week. Please see the curriculum for this program here.

Fun Mandarin

Fun Mandarin program at Wall Street Chinese teaches 4 to 5 years old children Mandarin through various kinds of activities and games. Children should be able to able to gain basic Chinese language knowledge and skills naturally through interactions with teachers and peers. This class focuses on developing children’s interests in learning Chinese language systematically in the future,  but also learn Eastern culture and develop their social skills

Chinese Immersion

Chinese Immersion is a two hour class designed for children from 6 to 16 years old who have learned Mandarin Chinese before. During the first hour of every class, they will be tutored on their Chinese language level, then they will apply what they have learned to the intensive conversational & listening practices followed. This class aims to effectively improve students’ ability to use Chinese in real life situations and other subjects at school.

Early Mandarin 

Mandarin poems & songs is designed for children aged 2-4 years old to learn mandarin in a fun and natural way. Chinese music instruments playing, beautiful ancient classic Chinese poems reciting, classic Chinese songs singing are implemented into this class. The length of this class is 1 hour each week. The objective of this class is to plant a “mandarin seeds” into the little mind from a early age through music and beautiful rhythm of mandarin. The length of this class is 1 hour per week.

 

Happy Chinese

Happy Chinese program is designed for children around 5-6 years old who have studied Chinese before. This program further strengthens children’s language skills by letting them practice reading Chinese ancient poems, telling short stories, and singing Chinese songs. One class is composed of a 45 minute learning section plus a 45 minute practice section. Children will be able to learn Chinese and meanwhile have fun with their peers.

Mandarin for Pre -Teens 

Teaching Chinese to pre-teenagers is both challenging and rewarding. Children who are between 10-12 years old start to develop their ability to learn Chinese by logic. They like to know why and they can learn Chinese by knowing its system. They can learn fast as this is the last opportunity to learn to speak another language perfectly.

Chinese for Teens

This class is design for children in middle and high schools. Although teenagers start to lost their ability to learn a second language starting from 13 year old and older, but their awareness to know the importance of learning a foreign Chinese should motivate them with the language learning process. So in short, motivation plays a big role in this age group and we do utilized it greatly. We also implement the idea of learning Chinese language to communicate with 1/5 of the world population as a business language communication tool.

2. SPECIAL CHINESE MANDARIN PROGRAM 

Rainbow mandarin workshops

(Start from Fall/2013 for children 5-12 years old only)

Rainbow Mandarin workshops aims to build up a complete foreign language environment to improve students’ listening, reading, speaking and writing ability. We will show one movie each week with specific topics. Students will be able to learn Chinese using games, handcrafts, dramas, presentations and so on.

It is a brand new way to break the traditional classroom teaching. We try to let the students approach cultural perspectives through learning Chinese language.
Themes and the language topic:
Week 1-2: Red:Nezha Shaking the Sea (Nature)
Week 3-4: Orange: the nine-color deer (Colors)
Week 5-6Yellow: the monkey king (Actions)
Week 7-8: Green: little tadpole finding their mother (Animals)
Week 9-10: Black: the black cat police chief (Living Environment)
Week 11-12:Blue: Mulan’s story (People)
Week 13-14: Purple: the lotus lantern (Adjectives)

Mandarin time

Chinese Story Time is a drop-in Chinese listening and speaking practice class for children at any age and at any Chinese language level. We have teachers to read classic ancient Chinese or classic western stories to the children and then ask the children to repeat, retell and discuss or play related games and singing songs. The objective of this class is to provide extra practice time for children who are lacking of Chinese listening & speaking environment in the English speaking country. Parents can drop their kids for up to 2 hours on Friday afternoon or weekend mornings.

3. CHINESE ART&CULTURE WORKSHOP

Chinese Art, cultural and Health workshops 

Chinese calligraphy, Ink painting, music, chess and Go etc to available to children who are 6 years or older.Certified Chinese teacher introduce simple Yoga, Qigong, Meditation, Tai-Qi and some East wisdom in Chinese language to 5-10 years old children.

Chinese Calligraphy and Ink Painting

Chinese Calligraphy is a type of visual art related to writing. It is the design and execution of lettering with a broad tip instrument or brush in one stroke. The workshop of Chinese Calligraphy is a significant way to help children understand the meaning and feature of Chinese character. It is an efficient and effective way for children to train the writing structure and stroke of the Chinese character. Additionally, Chinese Calligraphy concentrates on the mental cultivation and improvement of patience.  In the meanwhile, children can learn about the ancient Chinese culture, aesthetics and history.

Chinese Qi-Gong, Kung Fu, and Tai Chi

Qi-Gong is a practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation. Children can benefit from Qi-Gong , as the practice of Qi-Gong involves rhythmic breathing coordinated with slow stylized repetition of fluid movement, a calm mindful state, and visualization of guiding qi through the body. Kung Fu is martial art. Kung refers to “work” or “achievement” and Fu means “intensity”. It helps children to cultivate a smooth mind and s spiritual concentration.

Chinese Music instrument 

We have five Chinese instruments at our training center they are: Er Hu(二胡), Zheng(箏), Qin(琴), Pipa(琵琶), Xiao(蕭). Our well trained teacher can teach any instrument you preferred at our facility.
